I'm back from the brink and the lurgy seems to be abating. Thanks to all those people who left me well wishes. It was so nice to get them.
Today, on my desk...
Some little goodies for some lovely girls. And... this skirt.
I bought it years ago in an Op Shop because I loved the fabric and wanted to turn it into something. I have never quite worked out what to turn it into though. I love the buttons and the binding so I am not sure whether to try to keep the detail of the design or to just try and use the fabric. It really is quite sensational don't you think? It's made in Spain and is 98% cotton with 2% spandex.
Recently I have been inspired by some sewing projects I saw. Firstly there was this brooch keeper (and I do have lots of brooches) over at Quilting Mick. Then I like the way Curly Pops has made this bag and I thought that I could try doing something like that with it. The print is so big and bold that anything I do really needs to use a large section of the material I think so as not to lose the detail.
Anyway, I would love to hear any ideas that people have for what to make with it. It is yearning to be back out there in the world in all its glory. And it definitely won't be in its current incarnation as a mini-skirt (I wish)!!!!

OMG I'm jumping up and down in excitement over those birdy pics!
OK now that I've calmed down....that fabric would look fab as a bag panel & there are a multitude of colours to choose from as the rest of the bag. If you wanted to keep the buttons and the binding, it would also make a fabulous apron. I have some buttons exactly the same as that from the op-shop if you need any more.
I agree with Curlypops that an apron would be wonderful! It's a magnificent find!
I love the birds! They are great!!! So much you could do with the skirt...
Glad to hear you're starting to feel a bit better.
Looove those birdies! So cute!
The fabric on the skirt is great. I do like the curlypops style bag. I wonder if you can do the front panel keeping the same binding and buttons... they are just lovely. Have the binding off set if that makes sense.
Have fun what ever you do!
Beautiful artworks!!! And I reckon that skirt would make a stunning bag :)
Ooh, that fabric is ace !! I say go with a bag too. Or you could make an A-line skirt and have a panel of that fabric on it...
such cute birdies! hmmm so much you could do with that beautiful fabric... i like the bag idea or even a feature cushion could look cute.
oh i love your birdys...so sweet!!
that is great fabric - what about making a clutch bag?
Those birdy pics are really sweet. I am loving that skirt fabric - it would like great as a beach bag!
Hey girlie! You know you could just add lining and straps to that skirt and make it a bag as is. It is already the perfect shape.
I hope your feeling better. Your bird canvases are adorable. You really have an eye for shapes and colors. Thanks again Cath for the wonderful swap. It got us all up and out of our comfort zones to make something special to be shared. I can't wait for my package. Love Stacy
I have no suggestions for that skirt but craftier minds have spoken. I am just finally googling 'lurgy' and am glad to hear it is related to American 'cooties'. ;-)
thanks so much for my birdy!!! Love him check out my blog to see what I did with it!!!
