It's True Love

I bought the "Woman's Day Complete Book of Handicrafts" (1973) a while back. It was only over the weekend that I really sat down and had a good look though. It's the most fabulous book. It covers everything - knitting, sewing, macrame, collage, hatmaking, toymaking, tatting, the list goes on. I wonder if the naughties will be remembered like the 70's for amazing craft. Will women in 30 or 40 years time be out trauling for "vintage" craft books from 2008?

When I came to this page my heart sang. I have to make it. I don't know when. I don't even know if I'm capable but I have to give it a go. This is true love. I think this it's the most beautiful knitted garment I've ever seen. Someday, sometime I'm going to go somewhere absolutely fabulous and I'll be wearing this garment - handmade by me.

What a beautiful stitch pattern on the cloak. Something like that would be lovely made with some of the great new fibres around now like bamboo or milk.

Ohh how exciting - because a) you would have an event to wear this baby too and b) the thought of you making it yourself - of course you can do it! The book is very familiar to me too, I am thinking my mum had a copy, must go and try to dig it out to see what other projects can be found!

I have this very same book and a couple of other similar ones that my mother had - don't they have the most fabulous projects in them - the photos are a bit dated - but the ideas I get from them are wonderful.

I also have this crafty bible, and actually made the tortoise pouffe on pg.277 in high school textiles class.
Why don't you whip up the cloch cap (pg.283) to go with your cape!

That book is in my collection too - in fact it was the very first craft book I ever owned - my Nan gave it to me when I was 9 yrs for Christmas! Looking forward to seeing how your cape turns out.

That cape is fantastic. Imagine how stunning it would look in some of the cool fibers available these days.

Happy knitting!
